defining your value proposition

While I saw a lot of corporate malaise online, I also came across something much more uplifting. The hook: “Every single corporate woman needs to watch this 10,000 times.”
Obviously, I did.
The woman in the video - Mollie, founder of a community for corporate women called The Fulfillment Lab - shared a simple framework to articulate your value proposition, a.k.a. why people should bet on you.
Here’s how it works:
-
Grab a pen and paper
-
Draw a quadrant and label each one: Experience, Skills, Passions, Personality
-
Write 10 things in each bucket
And bam - there’s your value proposition.
What I love about it:
-
It forces you to stop downplaying your accomplishments
-
It highlights how wonderfully unique every person’s career really is. It’s like the Tennie Workwear Quiz; no 2 women have the same answers, styles, or needs. Your mix of experiences and personality is the reason your voice matters
-
It reminds you that who you are is just as valuable as what you do - if not more
If you get stuck on a quadrant, notice which one. Struggling with “Skills”? That doesn’t mean you need another online certification. It might mean you need to be better at acknowledging what you already bring to the table.
Your value isn’t just what’s on your résumé. It’s your humor, compassion, curiosity - the things that make you you. Skills can be taught. Experience will come. But personality is irreplicable.
So as I head into this week a little more rested, here’s my Extra Credit challenge to you:
take 15 minutes to sketch your own value prop quadrant. You might be surprised by how much you already have to offer.
